Gucci Mane For Dummies.

Recently I went out on a date with a girl. Eventually the conversation turned to music. She asked what I listened to. I beat around the bush, telling her that lately I had been listening to a lot of Morrissey and The Beatles, but eventually I had to be honest and admit it: I mostly listen to Gucci Mane. She had never even heard of him, but as I spoke on why Gucci had me so captivated, she became more and more interested. She said she was going to check him out, and I quickly told her not to. I told her that Gucci was more than meets the eye. She seemed confused. I told her that I would give her a crash course on the greatness of Mr. La Flare at some point in the future. She laughed and said okay.

She probably didn’t consider that I might actually be serious, but I gave it some thought over the course of the next few days and eventually realized I had so many reasons, all so important, so many songs I needed to mention, so many lyrics I wanted to hone in on, that I needed to put my thoughts down on record so non-fans could understand what has me and so many others captivated by him. So with that, I present to you, Gucci Mane For Dummies which I have arranged into 8 simple bullet points for your reading pleasure.

Maino’s Dudes Beat Up A Guy In The Club.

As far as rappers go, Maino isn’t exactly my favorite. He’s alright, but I don’t really check for him like THAT. But I do love the guy just because he loves to beat the shit out of people and he’s got a long list of people, famous and unknown that he’s brutalized. In this clip it’s his boys doing the fighting but it’s still pretty funny how jolly he is about the whole thing.

I Want More Cheese. Lots & Lots Of Cheese.

I have a long winded blog I’m in the process of writing about Nicki Minaj. But until that’s ready to go, this will have to do. Seriously what the fuck is with that cameltoe in here? How did her stylist okay this? That ridiculous robot voice she uses here is over the top too. In comparison, Ojay’s Sesame Street raps and Waka’s uh… however you want to describe Waka’s rhymes, seem tame.

Waka Flocka Flame & Crunk Mosh.

I’m not sure if anyone affiliated with the So Icey clique actually refers to this shit as Crunk Mosh but that’s the only term I can possibly use to describe what is going on here.

First it’s essential that we take a look at Waka Flocka Flame. He is one of Gucci Mane’s many weed-carrier’s with a hilarious name, although I think OJ Da Juiceman takes the cake name wise. While Gucci is a misunderstood lyrical genius and OJ gets by on pure charisma and a bold sense of anti-lyricism, Waka’s rapping is just plain horrible. He comes with the occasional lyrical moment here and there, but largely he is just awful.

He does however, seem capable of inciting violence at his shows (or even just at clubs playing his songs which is what seems to be going on here) with an astonishing level of consistency. The term “crunk mosh” was used liberally by Lil Jon years ago, but this is something different. Moshpits themselves are old news too, but there’s something special about the fight in the above video. Maybe it’s because white punk rock kids moshing has just become boring but really it’s probably because all the kids in this video look far more likely to be carrying handguns.

Banks – Let Me Take U 2 Da Movies.

I posted this on TCU a while back to rave reviews but it’s worth mentioning again. This guy is a fucking piece of work. Rapping in front of Google image searched photos of nice cars and motorcycles? Check. An almost complete lack of any rapping ability? Check. He even busts out Jadakiss’ signature “A-ha!” for no reason. What’s funny though is that in general, foreign people are so fucking weird and out of it when it comes to adopting American staples like rapping, this kind of stuff isn’t even really surprising.

An In Depth Analysis Of Gucci Mane’s “Pillz”.

Anyone who knows me knows that there are few things on earth that I like more than rap music. And anyone who hangs out with me on a regular basis these days knows there isn’t any rapper I’m more infatuated with than Gucci Mane. I could, and probably will, write a blog about why I love him so. But right now I would like to examine one of his most infamous, catchy, hilarious and notable songs: Pillz.
